Lucy’s work is driven by empathy and a deep understanding of the emotional challenges children with SM face. She has been a featured speaker at key events like the SMIRA conferences (2015 and 2017), the Language & Emotions Conference in Poland (2016-2018), and workshops in Melbourne, Australia. Additionally, she contributed to intensive therapeutic programs such as Brave Buddies and WeSpeak in New York.

In 2019, Lucy co-founded the Selective Mutism Group Programme (SMGP) in London, later expanding it to Australia. Her global experience includes delivering therapy in the UK, USA, Bulgaria, Thailand, and Dubai. At Confident Children, Lucy leads a team of skilled therapists, all handpicked for their passion and expertise in SM. The team offers online sessions, supporting families worldwide, including in the UK, USA, South Africa, Sweden, and the UAE.

Lucy Nathanson is a Child Therapist, Selective Mutism (SM) Specialist, international speaker, bestselling author, and founder of Confident Children.

Since 2010, Lucy has been committed to helping children with SM find their voice. She began by creating YouTube videos to raise awareness and dispel myths to help children with SM get the support they deserve. Her innovative techniques and personalised approach have reached thousands. Lucy has written five books on SM, with her latest becoming a number one Amazon bestseller. She has travelled the world delivering therapy and speaking at major conferences, including the Selective Mutism International Conference & the SM Help Summit. Lucy has also been featured on the BBC & Early Years TV.
